Review of WL Marketing’s Directory Submission Service (part 3)
This is the final installment in the review of WL Marketing’s directory submission service.
I signed up for the 2000 directory submission package spread over four weeks. The service was only $105. I thought regardless of the outcome, submitting to 2000 directories over four weeks is more than I am willing to do for $100 bucks, so why not. I felt for a while that it was a complete waste of money but perhaps I didn’t give the service enough time.
I still question the quality of the links and directories my site was submitted to but I can see for sure that there has been a huge increase in the number of backlinks to my site, from a few dozen to:
![]()
Not bad for $100 dollars. There’s no way I would have the time or patience to do this myself. That said, despite now having nearly 4000 links to my site, I have seen no change in page rank on my home page nor have I noticed significant increases in traffic as a result of WL Marketing’s service. Even so, I feel that the service they provided me with was worth the money I paid and is decent value when used in conjunction with my other marketing efforts.
I’ll try out their social bookmarking service next and review when I am done. WL Marketing provides a number of other services for busy marketers who would rather hire out some of their more tedious marketing tasks.
- Directory Submission Service
- Social Bookmarking Service
- Squidoo & Hubpages Lens/Hub Creation
- Article Marketing Service
- Content Writing Service
- Search Engine Indexing Service
- Blog Carnival Service
If you are busy and would rather spend your time working on other aspects of your business it may be worthwhile looking into WL Marketing’s services.
I would like to know if anyone else reading this blog has used their services and what you thought about them. Please post a comment and add your two cents.

I plan to use them. I saw a banner in a popular forum I think. The prices seem decent. I hope they are not scammers and deliver what they promise. Thank you for the review.
Hi, yeah, I didn’t think much of the service at first. But it took a few weeks and they did what they said they would. I though it was a good value overall.
Come back and let me know how things went.
Hello,
Where did you find 3950 links? I have checked your website by Alta Vista and it shows 193 links, by google - 3.
Happy New Year!
Hi Kate,
Thank you for commenting.
Hmmm…interesting, you’re right. However, when the screen-shot above was taken that is what it showed.
Oddly, I had the same complaint once and posted it to the WLMarketing admin. Here is the discussion:
WLMarketing Response:
Which I did and (excluding links from my domain) and show 101.
But, just as you say, I just tested the Google link tool and found only 3:( bummer.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll have to look into it more.
Best,
Doug
Hi Doug, thanks for the review. I’ve recently started my own web business - http://www.xtrahandykit.co.uk - and am looking for ways to drive traffic to it. My overheads are just my computer and a cup of coffee, (and I already own the cup), so I can be really competitive. Now another month on from your last offering, have you seen increased traffic?
Thanks,
Dave Watts.
Hey Dave, Just checked your site. Good looking site by the way.
Okay, well…for what I spent on WL marketing (I don’t even remember now maybe a couple hundred bucks) it was a good deal and yes, I do see some traffic from the effort they put in.
Seriously though you can do some of the stuff yourself. Get a DMOZ directory listing they’re free and valuable. Signup for Blog Catalog and befriend people there.
You can also do article marketing via sites like Ezine Articles and others.
Try video marketing. Although I have to tell you…this isn’t as easy as people make it seem. Yeah, it’s easy making videos but marketing them is the challenging part.
If I were you, I’d spend a few thousand dollars giving people something really cool in exchange for their email addresses (or maybe even those of their friends {like a 20% off coupon or something}).
The simple fact is this stuff just boils down to time or money. What do you have more of?
Recently, friends of mine are telling me about fantastic results they’re having with SENUKE. Check it out.
If you need anything else, let me know. Oh yeah, FYI don’t put much weight on those Webalizer stats. They are mostly wrong. Try Quantcast and Alexa. Mostly the results are disappointing but more accurate.
Cheers,
Doug
Hi Doug after reading this post i think i will give these guys a try. I mean even if it does give me 500 links i would be happy as like you i dont have the time to find all these sites and manually do them.
Thanks for the information
Hi,
Thanks for the review. I have been very sceptical of all marketing services that seem too quick and easy, as surely the search engines have switched on to them.
Anyway, I have a new site and it currently has no traffic, and no real position on google. So this is probably a good site to see the effects of bulk submission
I have paid for 600 directory entries over a month, and also bookmarking.
I will try and keep you updated to any change in my sites ranking, from a current “invisible” status.
THanks
James
No problem,
Stop by again and let me know how it goes.
Hello,
Me again, I checked out senuke and spent over an hour watching the software videos. It looks pretty good. They do not have a real blog with user feedback. I know you said that you heard a lot of good things about this, any credible and any personal. I called their office in Canada and found their site is not updated to the current features and that there are more sites and features added which is great.
Do you have any other suggestions similar to this? I want to look around a little more and kick the tires a little before a purchase.
Hi Tracy, yeah, as far as the review I was just talking with my go-to guy for SEO, Mike Esperance, he used SeNuke and liked it. He said he eventually discontinued the service preferring to use Amazon’s Mechanical Turk instead because that way the multiple postings are coming from numerous different IP addresses.
After reading third part of your article i m going to give their services a try for a client that is not going well with google.
I need a low cost submittion method for this low bugdet project
I will let you know for the result
i m going to try the package of 300 directories
Sounds good, let me know.

Thank you for this site which I just found. It is very useful and informative.
This topic has some useful information to me ! Thanks so much for providing some great information.
Hey Doug, i thought the point of your review was for purely that. Why do you end up linking an affiliate link to their site in your last post?
That’s good business sense but not looking to me from where I’m sitting.
Hi Quasi, I think it’s a pretty objective review. I mean I don’t know what else you could make of:
“despite now having nearly 4000 links to my site, I have seen no change in page rank on my home page nor have I noticed significant increases in traffic as a result of WL Marketing’s service. Even so, I feel that the service they provided me with was worth the money I paid and is decent value when used in conjunction with my other marketing efforts.”
That is both fact and my opinion. I also say:
“If you are busy and would rather spend your time working on other aspects of your business it may be worthwhile looking into WL Marketing’s services.”
Which I think it would. I don’t think there’s anything misleading in my review.
To answer the question why do I end up linking to them.
This has been one of my most popular posts and if people decide to click through and use the service based on my honest review then why shouldn’t I get a commission?
I know that affiliate marketing has come under fire for a lot of shady practices. There’s good reason for that. A lot of affiliates are shady and a lot of affiliate products are garbage. But…I don’t think there’s anything wrong in helping someone out by recommending a good book or useful product.

I have always heard more negative than good about directory listing, but I’m glad to have stumbled on this blog and comments as it makes me think that perhaps the jury is still out on it. I think I might try WL Marketing with some tracking code and see what happens. You are right, it’s priced low enough to make an attempt at any rate.
I’ve used SEnuke this year on a client site and it took his natural search traffic from @ 500 per month to 7,500 per month in the first 2 months of using it. Needless to say, I love it!
You can over do it with SEnuke, so in my opinion it is better to scale it down a bit rather than using the whole “howitzer!” I have 15 articles per week written and submitted to 3-4 ezine sites and then have SEnuke
1. Load the article up on the main website as a page or post to the site blog.
2. Bookmark each article
3. Do RSS submission for each Bookmark site
4. Then by hand “Ping” the profile of the Bookmark Site account
All of this has to be done in order and rather quickly (15 minutes) because you don’t want the robots finding your main article! You want them to hear the “Ping” first, then find the Bookmarks, then find the article,(Hubpage, Reddit, Propeller) THEN find your site…
There is no need to “Bookmark it to Kingdom Come!” In effect you are building links to your links to your main site. This creates a “Buzz” about your site that the spiders want to get to the bottom of… where the trail ends at your money site. Easy Peasy!
Anyway, this method works GREAT to get an article and a website listed on page one, sometimes within minutes.
One thing I didn’t mention above is that we only bookmark those articles to 4-5 bookmarking sites. Then we ping those bookmarks or if you have trouble finding the RSS feed for that particular bookmark, you can simply ping the profile page (top right corner) which does the same thing… draws the robots to “discover” the “buzz.”
Simple and easy, but the main thing is that all of this building links with anchor text that has your desired keyword! THAT’s the key to getting a page on your site ranked - for what you want it to get ranked for.
Anyway, just an FYI for you.
Dan
Just ordered 600 directory submissions I’ll keep you posted on the results.
BTW: James do you have any results?
Hello Doug,
thanks for your review. I have just created a bookmarking / search engine site http://www.zillionlinx.com and have just bought a “Starter package”. I will let you know what I think about them after a month or so.
Happy New Year!
Peter
Blog Carnivals and Squidoo lenses and Hub pages really help us lot for optimizing Websites and internet Marketing …Highly Traffic Generation Websites .
Agree Rahul, those are all good ways to generate traffic. I have noticed some social bookmarking sites aren’t allowing you to book mark Hubs and Lenses.
Hi Doug, Just read your 4 part review on wl marketing and was wondering if you saw any visible changes in your ranking on google like from rank 20 to rank 2 after a period of time by just using their services. Great review btw.
Hi Doug,
thanks for the review. I’ve used WL marketing on another site and I also thought it was worth the money, although realistically it’s really hard to tell which things are working and which aren’t. The porn site link really scares me I didn’t notice that when I used them although I did notice the directories had some pretty bodgey sounding names.
I have a new site now and i was debating whether I go back to WL or look for a new company. Have you tried the social booking service they offer yet? I’d love to know how that went?
Cheers Trixie
P.s Not sure why people are complaining about you adding an affiliate link - why shouldn’t we thank you for sharing your experience by using your link?!?
Hey Trixie,
I have not used their social bookmarking service. I’ve looked at different services, but I’ve chosen to go with a dedicated resource and hired a couple of people on Odesk to do the tedious SEO stuff.
Additionally, for many of my sites I do very little SEO. I figure you’re going to pay for traffic one way or the other and media buys are scalable. Media buys have been driving most of the traffic to my offers lately.
Cheers,
Doug
Hi, I have just used WL marketing for some bookmarks at my site http://usedcarforum.co.uk will let you know how I get on.
Great review, Doug! Thanks
I’m glad you waited some time and decided to separate the review in 3 parts. Directory submissions could take some time, so it wouldn’t have been fair to close the case just like that.
I’ve tried similar services such as Submitedge and Blurbpoint, but I’m always open to new link building packages and WL Marketing has a lot to offer!
Thanks again and happy New Year!
Gisele
great review. i can tell you from experience that 2000 links over 4 weeks is very agressive. Google likes a slow and steady pace. Plus you dont want to do all 2000 with one company. I try to find a company with smaller submissions like 100 or 200 which i do over 2 to 3 weeks. plus using different companies usually means they are not using the same direcory farms which are usually related.

Interesting theories BillyD. The problem with directory submissions is that so many of the directories do not approve your link for months. You can see the stats on some of them. They have thousands of pending links. So, you only get a fraction of what you pay for in a timely manner.
I’ve used submitedge.com for linking. They are good, but their turnaround is so slow now. It has taken me 3 weeks to get the links submitted. I’m going to try the wlmarketing company. They also have a deep linking service that I have not found elsewhere.
Does anyone have any thoughts on deep linking directories?
Overall, I have had great results with lots of directory submissions. The cheaper directories will not get you to page one, but they will get you to page two. The more expensive directories, such as Botw.org are necessary to get to page one.
Hi Doug,
I runa UK based blind company and have been trying to increase the traffic for the past 2 yeras in my spare time. I think I will give these a go as a part of a lerger plan. I’m also going to do some article submissions, get niche blog reviews and participate in the home improvement forums. If anyone has any other ideas I can try please let me know.

Good point, especially now with the new algorithms, anything unnatural looking seems to have a negative impact. For organic traffic there is no magic bullet. Slow steady growth and elbow grease seem to work best i.e…finding link partners, blog comments, forums, press releases, articles, etc…. I have had good results hiring outsourced contractors to do this for me. The problem there has been finding good help who can work in a timely manner and keep good records without a lot of direction.
Thank you so much for your post and all the comments. I did manually submit our site and the site to many directories. Tedious is the word. I had to listen to Metallica to keep awake. I am so glad to know that WL Marketing is legitimate. Yext keeps popping up but they are so expensive and I don’t like their fear type tactics for newbies like me. I am also going to look at SeNuke.
Leave your response!
