5 Facebook Advertising Tips and Tactics
Facebook advertising has been the all-the-rage for a while now and for good reason. Few advertising mediums allow you to target groups so specifically. The information you place on your profile page makes that targeting possible.
For instance, if you say your into gardening and do it yourself projects those ads are displayed to you. If you’re considering going into a certain market change your interests in your profile page and wait a few minutes and you’ll see ads directed at those interests. If you go to the bottom of those ads there’s a link that reads “more ads”; click that and you’ll see a page of various ads for you to compare with.
At present I haven’t found any market intelligence tools like Spyfu or KeywordSpy for Facebook advertising but I’m sure you’ll start seeing them soon. If you know of any please leave a comment. But, what you can do is just monitor ads your considering for a few weeks and try gauging what’s working before you start spending.
The video below is just something I threw together on the fly to show you the Facebook ads interface and get you more familiar with how it works.
I’ve been experimenting with Facebook ads a bit more lately. Here are a few things that are working for me and maybe they’ll work for you.
- Stay in the game set a budget you can afford, work out your metrics, and discipline yourself not to pull an ad right away that might not be getting the results you want immediately. People very often have to see the ads several times before they click. Here’s how to calculate for a sample item:
Keyword Impressions Clicks Cost Average CPC Conversions Profit ROI flower delivery 1,000 50 $50 $1.00 5 $100 200% fresh flowers 1,000 100 $50 $0.50 10 $50 100% - Always make at least two ads for every product you advertise. This will allow you to test different variables such as headline, image, and body copy.
- You can direct link to a URL with Facebook ads but…This is something that should be tested. When testing your ads try sending people to an intermediate page that offers some useful advice or other valuable content like “5 tips for the best sex of your life.” Then create a page with the 5 good tips and put a link at the bottom saying something like “Want to find out how to have even better sex? Click for more information.” or something enticing related to your product/market. You may find this works better than direct linking.
- Be as specific as possible with your targeting. You don’t need 300,000,000 million of the wrong people looking at your ad you just need the right people. Facebook is great for giving you the power to really drill down.
- Don’t go for the immediate sale. Create a Facebook Fan Page and advertise your fan page. Once you have people on your Fan Page you can market them for free.
