Keep Dreaming

dreaming

Remember dreaming about all the things you would do and be and have growing up? If your life is anything like mine then you know that the reality of adult life doesn’t necessarily play out like the dreams of childhood.

How come after doing all the right things, going to school, getting a good job, putting money away etc…we still are not living the life we dreamed about? We are maxxed-out and fearful that if we stop doing what we are doing we will lose what we already have. We are drowning in debt, auto loans, home loans, student loans and credit card debt. Is this really the American dream?

I made decent money, had a good job, and some nice things, but I wasn’t leading the life I always dreamed about. I was stuck in an office most of the time from sunup to sundown , slaving away, constantly under pressure, forced to subordinate myself to people I felt I knew better than. Honestly, I felt like I was in a prison without walls.

I was so ready to breakout on my own many times. But, every time I would come up with a good idea and run it by family or friends they would always meet it with objections. Things like, that’s a good idea, but you have a good job now, what if your idea doesn’t work, or… you’ll be giving up your security net, if it fails you won’t be eligible for unemployment, or…there are already a lot of people doing that, how will you compete?

I know now that the reason those people always thought about the negatives is because they had never taken the leap of faith themselves. The had always wanted to but they let fear and lack of confidence get the better of them. If any of them had taken the leap and failed they had been beaten by failure and afraid to get back up and go after their dreams again. And so they settled for a life of mediocrity, content letting an employer decide their fate, content working as slaves for 20 or 30 years allowing the passion and zeal for life to be drained from them.

I listened to the naysayers for a long time and it got me nowhere. I was miserable and decided to take the leap. At first I lost a lot of money…had a bunch of failures…and got everything wrong. But…looking back, I am not sure if I would have preferred things any other way.

I learned a lot along the way. I found out that as cliché as it sounds, what you can believe you can achieve and I am going to help you.
