Interview with an internet marketer who recently had his first $100 Day
I know there are a lot of you out there not making squat. You try this and that but you can’t seem to squeeze even $1 lousy dollar from your efforts.
Could this be because you aren’t really doing much? Are you always in the forums and looking for some magic formula or some piece of software that is going to make you rich overnight? Sorry friend’s it just doesn’t work like that.
Today, I talked to Darin from Adsense Strategies and Internet Marketing Tips (which is a great site by the way). I thought I was recording the call through FreeConferenceCall.com, but I didn’t do something right, and so…I don’t have the awesome audio interview I hoped to have for you guys.
Anyhow, I am going to recount many of the gems Darin told me from memory.
When I found out Darin, a tool and die maker from Milwaukee had his first $100 dollar Internet marketing day not that long ago I though wow, this is something many of my readers would be interested in. Darin was gracious enough to take time from his family evening and talk to me.
I asked Darin how he got started online. He said a buddy of his had gotten him interested in mortgages a few years ago and that he put up a mortgage related website he monetized with AdSense and made around $1000 per month. Then the mortgage crisis hit.
Darin told me he loves AdSense, and got so excited about it at one point that he started using private label rights(PLR) content and began putting up dozens of blogs until one day after a few warnings from Google his sites got banned and Google removed the AdSense.
Google doesn’t like blogs designed solely for the purpose of generating revenue from AdSense without providing any real and useful information - hence the duplicate content filter. You see, if someone could just write a bunch of PLR articles and people could just take them and put them up all over without any penalties and generate AdSense revenues everyone would be doing it.
So how did Darin make his first $100 in a day online? He did it promoting products from Clickbank. Clickbank is a huge digital products affiliate network. You promote other peoples products in exchange for a cut of the profits. The tricky thing with promoting products is that you have to figure out what kind of products are selling online and then choose products that actually convert.
I asked Darin how he goes about finding a profitable niche. He said he doesn’t have any magical formula, he just thinks about things that people want. He said he was at the park with his children today and he noticed one thing that nearly every mother had. Of course, he couldn’t tell me what that was but you get the idea.

Darin told me once he figures out a profitable niche, and a Clickbank product to promote he starts writing articles and submitting them to article directories.
Articles need to be informative and useful. I asked Darin what the length of his articles is and he told me a little secret that he allowed me to share with you.
Write articles of 250 - 300 words and then have another 150 word resource box that lures readers into clicking the link. Here is how a resource box might start off:

He also shared something that I found interesting. He said he had higher click through rates when the link was clearly shown as a link such as www.mylink.com instead of anchor text links such as click my link. I wonder if that is because we are so inundated with links that we often disregard them if they are just part of the flow?
Darin also told me that he had better luck writing articles and linking them to blogs and using the blog as a hub. According to him, HubPages and Squidoo lenses did not get the same click through rate as blogs.
So, what kind of traffic does it take to make $100 dollars per day through your blog. Well, of course it depends on the niche, content, sales page, etc… but in Darin’s $100 promotion, he says that he gets around 1000 visitors per day.
That sounds about right. Internet sales (on average) convert at around 1-2%. So, if you have 1000 visitors to your site, and 10 of them convert on a $10 affiliate commission you are looking at your $100 dollars.
Long ago, one of the earliest Web usability pioneers Jakob Nielsson coined the phrase, “content is king.” This is as true today as it was then. If you want to bring visitors to your site and convert them you need to write good quality content. You also need to give them clear calls to action like the one above…give good free content, and then let them know, if they want to really excel, or get the full benefit, or learn the most important thing, here is what they have to do (click your Hoplink).
In closing, I asked Darin to share what he felt was most important in making money online. Darin said that action and persistence are the keys to making money online. If you just keep on writing and keep working, sooner or later you will begin to make money.
Darin’s $100 dollar day should be an inspiration to anyone out there who is discouraged and thinks they can’t make money online.
Darin is married with three children. He says that if you are making excuses about why you can’t get things done, then that is all they are. He writes articles in the mornings and during lunch breaks. And, if you truly want to make money online you will need to make time to get things done.
